Children's choirrehearsing in the Olympiastadion
Children's choir rehearsing in the Olympiastadion
Where usually the sounds of Hertha fans cheering on their team can be heard, there will be a totally different acoustic this evening: Over the next few weeks the children and youth choir of the Deutsche Oper will be rehearsing in the Olympiastadion Berlin. A replacement for the usual practice rooms, which are simply too small under the current regulations. Every Wednesday and Thursday, from 4 pm to 7 pm, rehearsals take place in the stadium and visitors may listen to the singing of the children and teenagers.
Due to the Infection Protection Act the children and youth choir of the Deutsche Oper Berlin was not able to use the usual practice rooms on their own premises. The 150 choir-members were missing a large enough rehearsal room, where the current hygiene regulations and distance rules could be met. The Olympiastadion Berlin was the salvation: On the stand in the east curve all members can find enough space while following the distance rules.
Timo Rohwedder (46), CEO of the Olympiastadion Berlin GmbH, is excited about the unusual sounds: “We are happy to help the Deutsche Oper Berlin out. For us and our visitors the choir is a welcome alternative – no one has sung on the stands for months…”
The director of the children and youth choir of the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Christian Lindhorst (45), is grateful for this new opportunity: “Since march the groups have not been able to practice together, although it is very important for voice training and the development of a performance. We are thankful that the Olympiastadion Berlin is giving us this opportunity.”
The children and youth choir is a strongly into the program integrated ensemble partner of the Deutsche Oper Berlin. The kids and teenagers receive a musical education, to soon be able to stand on the opera stage together with professionals.
The Olympiastadion Berlin is currently opened daily from 9 am – 7 pm. On Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4 pm – 7 pm visitors can watch the choir rehearsals. More information on opening hours and admission fees can be found at www.olympiastadion.berlin.
