20 Years of Pyronale: The World Fireworks Championship Celebrates Its 20th Anniversary in 2026

In 2026, the Maifeld at Berlin’s Olympic Stadium will once again be transformed into a grand stage for the international art of fireworks: On September 25 and 26, six teams from different countries will compete at the Pyronale’s 20th anniversary celebration, demonstrating how precision, technology, music, and artistic staging merge to create impressive shows in the night sky.

For two evenings, the sky above Berlin will become the setting for a special competition. The participating teams bring different styles, experiences, and traditions to the event. Represented this year are Germany, Estonia, Poland, China, Switzerland, and Romania. The field thus ranges from long-established pyrotechnics companies to young teams entering the competition with international experience and fresh ideas.

“Mr. Pyronale,” Mario Hempel, organizer of the Pyronale, is once again looking forward to a top-notch lineup of participants. “The Pyronale thrives on the diversity of its teams. Each country brings its own unique way of telling a story through fireworks. That is precisely what makes this competition so special and keeps thrilling audiences year after year.”

A jury will once again evaluate the fireworks displays this year. The scoring will take into account, among other things, the artistic design, synchronization with the music, technical execution, and the overall impression of the shows. In addition, the audience will once again have a say, as visitors’ votes also contribute to determining the daily winners.

As the grand finale, guests can look forward to a closing fireworks display on both evenings, as well as the announcement of the daily winners. Thus, each Pyronale evening concludes with another highlight before the overall winner of the 2026 Pyronale is determined at the end of the competition.
