High Sustainability Standards: Berlin Olympic Stadium Recertified by Green Globe

In August 2018, the Berlin Olympic Stadium became the first stadium in the world to be certified by Green Globe. In August 2026, it received its fifth recertification under the Green Globe Standard 1.8—an accolade recognizing Olympiastadion Berlin GmbH’s ongoing commitment to environmental, social, and economic sustainability.

Since its initial certification eight years ago, the stadium has implemented numerous sustainability and energy-efficiency investments—such as the solar panel system on the stadium roof and the retrofit of the roof lighting—while also advancing several projects focused on social sustainability. Through extensive renovations in the seating and restroom areas, the necessary infrastructure has been created to enable a wide range of members of our society to actively participate in stadium events.

Most recently, the focus has been on demonstrating how concerts can be organized in a more sustainable manner. Thanks to the successful collaboration with Loft Concerts and the sustainable technical solutions in place at the venue, two concerts were held in July 2026 at the Berlin Olympic Stadium—the first ever to be powered entirely by eco-friendly festival electricity. At several events, free drinking water was made available in the audience area, and at all concerts, only chemical-free restrooms were set up in the infield. We were particularly pleased that, at both the Die Toten Hosen concert and Lollapalooza, the “Barrierefrei Feiern” initiative was on-site as a point of contact with its awareness and accessibility concept. Our collaboration with Viva con Agua Berlin was also a great success: At several concerts, they were out and about on our grounds collecting bottle deposits, and the €11,208.93 in donations raised will fund the construction of a well.
