Sold out 74 667 spectators see Berlin Derby
It’s been a while: sold out Olympiastadion Berlin! 74,667 spectators followed the game on matchday 29 of the 2021/2022 Bundesliga season between Hertha BSC and city rivals 1. FC Union Berlin live in the stadium. The visiting team from Berlin-Köpenick won the Berlin derby 1:4.
The last time the Olympiastadion was sold out has been over two years ago on January 19th, 2020. Hertha BSC met FC Bayern Munich on the 18th matchday of the 2020/2021 season. Both the sports and the event industry in Germany and globally were quickly paralyzed by the effects of the corona pandemic. Uncertain times without public events or only under the condition of profound restrictions were to follow. Since then, all measures relating to the containment of SARS-CoV-2 have largely been lifted and events can be held without restrictions.
In the coming weeks, Hertha BSC will have two more home games against VfB Stuttgart and FSV Mainz 05. In May, this year’s DFB Cup final will be held – with spectators, for the first time since 2019. With Rammstein and Coldplay – whose performances are completely sold out apart from a few VIP tickets – two crowd pullers are coming to the Olympiastadion Berlin with impressive shows. Lollapalooza Berlin 2022 promises festival fans a special celebration in and around the Olympiastadion in September. And those who are less interested in loud music can still cheer on the ISTAF 2022, an annual track and field athletics meeting early in September, when records will be hunted again.
